Memorial Fund in Honor of Frank

The Francis J. Marx V '00 Memorial Scholarship
Mission of The Francis J. Marx
V '00 Memorial Scholarship
|
It is the goal of the parents of Francis Marx V to honor his life and preserve his memory by awarding a one-third scholarship to a current Holy Ghost Prep junior entering his senior year. In order to be considered for this scholarship, it is imperative that the candidates and eventual recipient exude leadership and possess a record of giving back to Holy Ghost Prep. The theme of Frank's Valedictory Address was to follow your heart with regard to the important decisions in your life, "Do not live passively, but be extraordinary." It is the desire of Frank's parents, Frank and Maureen Marx, that the scholarship recipient truly understands these words and that he does his best to implement them in his daily life. It is also a requirement that the recipient (and his family) possess a demonstrated financial need. |
We would like to congratulate the following recipients
of
The Francis J. Marx V '00 Memorial Scholarship:
Ernest Crafton (2005)
Lawrence Stickley (2006)

The Stated Purpose of the Francis J. Marx, V Memorial Fund is to provide an annual scholarship to a worthy student entering his senior year at Holy Ghost Preparatory School in Bensalem, PA. The fund also provides financial assistance on an annual basis to the Fairfield University's Men's Crew Team for equipment and operating expenses, etc. This team is part of the school's club sports program, and as such receives limited funding from the University. Our son Frankie was the team captain prior to his death and the fund is continuing to support the team's operations in his memory. The fund does not have any employees nor does it pay compensation to any individual for work performed on behalf of the Memorial Fund. All work performed on behalf of the fund is on a voluntary basis and all moneys raised go 100% to the Memorial Fund's stated purpose. The Francis J. Marx, V Memorial Fund is now recognized by the IRS as non-profit and all contributions are tax-deductible. Presently the Francis J. Marx, V Memorial Fund has two primary fund-raisers. A Memorial Softball Game and an annual Beef and Beer affair. |

Frank Marx Green & Gold
Award
| When Frankie was in grade school, St. Bede the Venerable honored him with their "Green and Gold" Award - a recognition of "Outstanding Sportsmanship and Leadership," as well as an "Outstanding Academic Achievement" Award signed by the President of the United States. |

| St. Bede's has renamed this award in honor of Frankie. It is now the "Frank Marx Green & Gold Award," and it honors a basketball player that exemplifies attributes that Frank embodied. |

Frank Marx V Annual Memorial Softball Game
| The Third Annual Memorial Softball game was another huge success and the most competitive game played thus far. Jim Mellon's Philadelphia Loss Conference Team once again prevailed by the closest of margins. Norm Friel did a great job of recruiting and nearly pulled off a win for his Southeastern Penna. Claims squad. The weather had been predicted to be bad, but we had sunshine instead and, as a result, a great turnout. The game was once again officiated by three excellent umpires from the PIAA - Tom McClain, Phil Harding, and John Shallot. We would like to thank the following 42 companies who generously sponsored this event. Special thanks to Carolyn Dezzi and her staff of volunteers for another terrific job. |

The Institute for
Non-Violence
Tree and Plaque Dedication
|
As you may know, we have gone up to Rhode Island on the anniversary
of Frank's death, and each year we have been rewarded for doing so.
This year a victims' support group, The Institute for Non-Violence,
arranged for a special dedication of a plaque and tree in Frank's
memory in Providence. The dedication went very well and we even had a little rain to help the young tree get a good start. Below are pictures of the plaque, tree, and map with a star showing the location. The memorial is right on the Providence river - we couldn't have gotten a better spot. I know Frank was the one that chose the location. There were about 60 people on hand and ABC Channel 6 covered the event. Father Mark McGregor drove up after Fairfield's Baccalaureate Mass to be on hand to bless the tree. As luck would have it, John Mullen's - one of Frank's crew mates - office overlooks the tree, so he is keeping a watchful eye on it for us. |

Thank you for your participation in this year's Fund Raiser. The raffle was a huge success. The winners are: 1st Prize - Frank Mutter Sr. 2nd Prize - Hugh McClure 3rd Prize - Bill McElroy We really appreciate your generosity towards the memorial fund and wonderful things it supports.
